As global communication networks accelerate toward 5G deployment and upcoming 6G research, high-precision time synchronization has become the cornerstone underpinning network operation. Saisi marks another overseas breakthrough recently: its high-precision BITS clock system has been fully deployed at ATOM, Myanmar’s leading telecom operator, laying a solid foundation for stable live network operation and future 5G construction.
1. End-of-Life Equipment Forces ATOM to Upgrade Its Core Timing Infrastructure
As Myanmar’s largest mobile operator, ATOM (Advancing Telecommunications of Myanmar) serves over 18 million end users. Its network covers 300 townships across Myanmar with more than 8,300 communication towers, reaching a national signal coverage rate of 95%. The network carries massive 4.5G mobile communication and broadband data services. Actively preparing for next-generation communications, ATOM has completed 5G pilot tests in Yangon and Mandalay, making it the operator best-positioned to launch commercial 5G services in Myanmar.
However, the legacy BITS clock equipment supplied by Vendor H, deployed in ATOM’s extensive network in early phases, has been permanently discontinued with all technical support terminated, and spare parts are no longer available. Coupled with hardware aging from long-term operation, risks to the nationwide synchronization system keep rising.
To sustain stable operation of the existing 4G network and align with medium-to-long-term network upgrade plans, ATOM launched a nationwide clock system modernization project. The solution needed to enable seamless cutover without service interruption, maintain compatibility with the existing network architecture, and satisfy nanosecond-level high-precision synchronization requirements for future 5G networks.
2. Saisi BITS Clock Successfully Deployed with Nationwide Delivery Completed for ATOM
Drawing on over a decade of profound technical expertise and rich engineering experience serving China’s three major telecom operators, Saisi developed a highly adaptable synchronization solution centered on the SM2500 BITS Clock System to meet ATOM’s nationwide equipment replacement and upgrade demands.
The Saisi SM2500 is a time server engineered specifically for carrier-grade central office environments, integrating full-range frequency synchronization and high-precision time synchronization capabilities with timing accuracy up to 30 ns. It offers backward compatibility with legacy SDH networks and older link architectures, while fully supporting mainstream modern transmission links including IP/OTN/DWDM. The single unit supports multi-generation network standards, delivering carrier-grade reliability for ATOM’s network.
The replacement project spanned multiple core machine rooms and aggregation sites of ATOM. Working closely with ATOM’s network operation and maintenance team, the Saisi engineering team strictly followed telecom operation specifications through every procedure: powering off legacy devices, rack-mounting new hardware, cable wiring, parameter configuration, system joint commissioning and service verification. All network-wide equipment completed cutover and went online successfully in one go. ATOM’s live services experienced zero perceptible interruption, and all equipment operates stably with outstanding performance.
The successful rollout of Saisi BITS clocks builds a high-precision, highly reliable timing network for ATOM. It also delivers a robust timing reference for the smooth evolution from 4.5G to 5G, fully supporting large-scale 5G base station deployment and precise coordination in the future.
3. Deepening Global Market Footprint: Saisi Time & Frequency Solutions Go Global
Since entering China’s operator market in 2015, Saisi has maintained industry-leading product strength and service capabilities. For successive years, Saisi has secured leading market shares in centralized procurement campaigns of China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom. Deeply engaged in the top-level design of national synchronization networks from the 13th Five-Year Plan to the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan, Saisi stands as a key player in China’s domestic 5G synchronization network construction.
The successful ATOM Myanmar project represents another major milestone for Saisi BITS clock systems in mainstream overseas operator markets. From supporting China’s three domestic carriers to empowering Myanmar’s largest telecom operator, Saisi is bringing robust Chinese time & frequency synchronization technology to the broader global marketplace.
Currently, global communication networks are advancing deeper 5G commercialization and pre-research on 6G. High-precision timing infrastructure has become an essential foundation for network construction. Moving forward, Saisi will continue to innovate core time & frequency synchronization technologies, deliver highly adaptable, evolvable standardized solutions, and provide accurate timing services to fuel high-quality development of global communication networks.
