1. Ensuring Stable Operation of Power Systems

Stable operation of power systems relies on coordinated collaboration among all equipment, and precise time synchronization serves as the fundamental prerequisite to achieve this goal. Power plants house numerous devices including generators, transformers, and protection relays, which must operate and respond in strict chronological order.

For instance, upon system faults, protection relays must act accurately within specified time windows to rapidly isolate faulty lines and prevent fault propagation. If equipment clocks are out of sync, protection relays may fail to identify faults timely and accurately, delaying fault isolation and potentially triggering power system instability or even total collapse. The power plant clock synchronization system unifies the time reference for all field devices, enabling protection relays to deliver millisecond-level accurate responses and guaranteeing stable, reliable power grid operation.

2. Improving Power Quality

Power quality is a core metric for evaluating power supply performance, and clock synchronization systems play a decisive role in its improvement. Stable control of parameters such as voltage and frequency is critical during power generation. The clock synchronization system delivers precise time references for the plant’s automatic control system, supporting real-time monitoring and dynamic adjustment of electrical parameters.

With high-precision time synchronization, control systems can accurately regulate generator output power and frequency to maintain them within rated ranges. Meanwhile, reactive power compensation equipment can execute optimized switching operations based on standardized time signals, rationalizing reactive power distribution across the grid. This mitigates voltage fluctuations and flicker, upgrades overall power quality, and delivers superior power supply to end users.

3. Enabling Efficient Power Grid Dispatching

Continuous expansion and rising complexity of power grids demand highly efficient dispatching, for which power plant clock synchronization systems provide a robust unified time foundation. Grid dispatch centers require real-time visibility of operating status and power transmission data from all power plants to formulate rational dispatching strategies.

The synchronization system attaches accurate timestamps to data transmissions between different power plants, as well as between plants and dispatch centers, allowing dispatchers to clearly grasp the real-time operating state of the entire power grid. When drafting generation schedules, dispatchers can allocate generation capacity optimally by cross-referencing real-time plant data with grid load demands, realizing optimized allocation of power resources. In emergency scenarios, precise time-stamped data supports rapid response and ensures safe, high-efficiency grid operation.
