Application of Time Synchronization in Autonomous Driving

Time synchronization technology refers to the process of aligning the clocks of multiple devices or systems through specific methods. In the field of autonomous driving, it is mainly deployed on various in-vehicle equipment and sensors, including navigation systems, cameras, radars and other components. By acquiring and processing data from these devices in real time, autonomous vehicles can generate more accurate judgments and decisions amid complex driving environments.

1. High-Precision Positioning and Navigation

Autonomous vehicles rely on high-precision positioning systems to determine their real-time coordinates. Time synchronization enables vehicles to obtain timestamps of satellite signals instantaneously, which greatly improves the accuracy of positioning algorithms. In addition, the technology supports navigation modules: by capturing real-time road traffic data, it calculates and delivers optimal driving routes for self-driving cars.

2. Intelligent Traffic Signal Control

Time synchronization unifies the clock reference between autonomous vehicles and roadside traffic facilities, enabling coordinated intelligent signal control. For instance, after synchronizing time with traffic light equipment, an autonomous vehicle can automatically adjust its traveling speed based on predicted traffic conditions, thus mitigating congestion caused by signalized intersections.

3. Lane Keeping Assist System (LKA)

Time synchronization helps autonomous vehicles detect the position and orientation of lane markings to activate the lane keeping assist function. Through real-time analysis of road traffic flow, vehicle speeds and other road parameters, the system actively corrects the vehicle’s trajectory once lane drift is detected, significantly boosting driving safety.
